Trojans win in the snow in Drayton Valley

The Camrose Trojans headed to Drayton Valley on Friday Oct 7 to face the Warriors. They arrived in the middle of a snowstorm and could barely see the field. It was a cold, wet, snowy game with a stiff wind crossing the field. The Trojans kept the ball on the ground rushing for 339 yards and their first victory 28 – 14 over the Warriors. The Trojan Offensive line set the tone on the ground and behind them Nick Ioanidis was able to rush for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns and Griffin Lorenz rushed for 112 yards. Russell Oshanyk and his punishing running style was the top rusher of the night with 114 yards on 15 carries and 2 touchdowns. Oshanyk also hauled in a 5 yard reception on a 2 point conversion. The Drayton Valley Warriors are known for a fast paced offence and a quick fly sweep. The Trojans defence were ready and snuffed out the Warrior rushing attack holding them to 94 yards on the ground. A much improved Trojan pass defence rose to the occasion and the Warriors only completed 2 passes of their 12 attempts for 20 yards. Leaders on Defence were first year player Dylan Barton, from Forestburg, who controlled the edge of the line with 7 Tackles. Veteran Tynan McCarthy was second with 5 tackles. Terryl Sherman, also a first year player from Forestburg, contributed for 4 tackles and an assist. Austin Thompson added 4 tackles, Chandler Barore 3 and first year player Jacob Bourget anchored the middle of the Trojan Defensive line adding 3 tackles. After a long weekend and a short week the Trojans will take to the road again to play the Ponoka Broncs on Thursday October 13. Go Trojans!

Trojans Loose to # 1 Stettler Wildcats

The Camrose Trojans took on the number 1 Stettler Wildcats at home on Friday night losing 42 – 9. The Wildcats had previously held their opponents scoreless in their first three games. The ever improving Trojans were the first team in the league to put up points on the Wildcats. The Trojans have seen some impressive plays put up by their young squad. Terryl Sherman kicked his first field goal and Austin Thompson scored on a 1 yard plunge into the endzone. The Trojans saw some big plays from the young team with first year player Aiden Brown making the biggest play of the night with a tackle, force fumble, and fumble recovery on a Stettler kick returner. The Trojans force and recovered one other Fumble on the night but the Stettler defence picked off two Griffon Lorrez passes deep in their territory to keep the Trojans from capitalizing on Offensive drives. Veteran Matt Harland hauled in 3 catches for 58 yards for the Trojans. Defensively the Trojans were lead by Veteran Austin Thompson and first year player Terryl Sherman with 7 tackles each. Next up for the Troajsn is a trip to Drayton Valley on Friday afternoon. Go Trojans!

The Camrose Trojans made the long trek to Rocky Mountain House Friday afternoon to play the Rebels. The Trojans Defence stifled the Rebels rushing attack holding them to under 100 yards on the ground. The Rebels went to the air however throwing for 278 yards edging out the win. The Rebels scored first through the air going up 7 – 0 then first year running back Dorian Gibbs got free and ran for an 80 yard touchdown to bring the Trojans back into the game. The point after attempt by Chandler Barore went wide. The Rebels added another touchdown through the air and with the convert the Trojans were down 14 – 6 with 53 seconds left in the half. Gibbs struck again with a 40 yard Kickoff return to put the Trojans into good field position. Five Plays later Griffon Lorenz scored on a QB sneak behind center Shane Bowles. Bowles was playing his first game as center taking over for the injured Jayden Neuman and played excellent rising to the challenge. The Trojans went for 2 points but it was no good. 14 – 12 at the half. The first drive of the Rebels was stopped when the throw went off the receivers hands right to Trojan Chandler Barore. Barore squeezed the interception and returned it deep into the Rebel territory. The Rebel defence stiffened and the Trojans were held to a Field Goal attempt that went wide for a single point 14 – 13. Trojan QB Griffon Lorenz got outside the Rebels defence and with a key block from Trojan receiver Aiden Brown, Lorenz was able to tiptoe down the sidelines for a 45 yard Touchdown run. The Trojan 2 point attempt was no good but the Trojans had their first lead of the night 19 – 14. Defences stiffened on both sides of the ball but the Rebel passing attack struck again late in the fourth quarter and with a successful point after the Rebels were back on top 21 – 19. Camrose tried a fake punt that didn’t fool the Rebels but a big defensive stand gave the Trojans the ball back with under 2 minutes to play. Matt Harland hauled in a 35 yard pass from Lorenz bringing the Trojans into Rebel territory but the Trojans were unable to convert and with no timeouts left the Rebels were able to kneel the ball out and secure the win.

Next game for the Trojans is at home under the lights Friday Sep 30 at 7:30 when we host the Stettler Wildcats.

The Trojans lost 50 – 16 to the defending league champions. Sylvan Lake came in with a veteran presence and dominated the Trojan Defence putting up 50 points. The Trojans could not contain the powerful rushing attack of the Lakers who had the outside edge of the Trojan line all night. Not all is lost on the Troajns who put up 272 yds rushing and 108 yds passing on 9 catches. There were 5 different receivers who caught Griffon Lorenz Passes with Matt Harland leading the way in receiving with 3 catches for 65 yds. The Trojans put together some impressive drives with 21 first downs. One drive was poised to score but a Laker interception on the 1 yard line snuffed out sure points for the Trojans. Nick Ioanidis led the way on the ground with 10 carries for 75 yds and right behind him was Austin Thompson who ran for 73 yds on 9 carries. Chandler Barore kicked a Field Goal and Touchdowns were scored by Griffon Lorenz and Nick Ioanidis. Next up for the Trojans is an away game to Rocky Mountain House to play the Rebels on Friday September 23rd.

Trojans exhibition

The Camrose Trojans travelled to Drumheller to play the Titans today at 4:30 in the badlands. We lost to a tough Titan ground attack by a score of 28-10. The Trojans were plagued with injuries and many of our players were playing 2 ways and some out of position. Chandler Barore kicked a 20 yard Field Goal and Dorian Gibbs ran the ball in for a Touchdown from the 5 yard line with Barore kicking the extra point. The Trojan offence had some drives and a few big plays. One 46 yard pass from Giffon Lorenz was hauled in one handed by Ryder Willoughby. Nick Ioanidis had the big run of the day romping for 25 yards. Defensively the team was lead by Chandler Barore with 9 tackles and Austin Thompson with 8. Keaton Schneider and Liam Schafner added QB sacks and Drew Loosemore had a pass knockdown. Next action for the Trojans is the season opener at home Friday at 4:30 against the defending league champion Sylvan Lake Lakers. Go Trojans!
