Posted by Adam Belanger on Oct 08 2016 at 04:45PM PDT

The Camrose Trojans headed to Drayton Valley on Friday Oct 7 to face the Warriors. They arrived in the middle of a snowstorm and could barely see the field. It was a cold, wet, snowy game with a stiff wind crossing the field. The Trojans kept the ball on the ground rushing for 339 yards and their first victory 28 – 14 over the Warriors. The Trojan Offensive line set the tone on the ground and behind them Nick Ioanidis was able to rush for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns and Griffin Lorenz rushed for 112 yards. Russell Oshanyk and his punishing running style was the top rusher of the night with 114 yards on 15 carries and 2 touchdowns. Oshanyk also hauled in a 5 yard reception on a 2 point conversion. The Drayton Valley Warriors are known for a fast paced offence and a quick fly sweep. The Trojans defence were ready and snuffed out the Warrior rushing attack holding them to 94 yards on the ground. A much improved Trojan pass defence rose to the occasion and the Warriors only completed 2 passes of their 12 attempts for 20 yards. Leaders on Defence were first year player Dylan Barton, from Forestburg, who controlled the edge of the line with 7 Tackles. Veteran Tynan McCarthy was second with 5 tackles. Terryl Sherman, also a first year player from Forestburg, contributed for 4 tackles and an assist. Austin Thompson added 4 tackles, Chandler Barore 3 and first year player Jacob Bourget anchored the middle of the Trojan Defensive line adding 3 tackles. After a long weekend and a short week the Trojans will take to the road again to play the Ponoka Broncs on Thursday October 13. Go Trojans!
