Trojans Lose to Drayton Valley 41 - 6

Posted by Adam Belanger on Sep 17 2017 at 11:45AM PDT

The Camrose Trojans lost their home opener to the Drayton Valley Warriors 41 – 6 on Friday night. On Drayton’s first offensive play they ran the ball 85 yards for a touchdown. Then both defences steadied and yards were hard to come by for both teams. The half ended in Drayton Valley 7 – Camrose Trojans 0. Turnovers were an issue in the second half. Camrose fumbled in the endzone with the Warriors recovering in the third to go up 13 – 0. The Trojan defence had a few breakdowns which saw big gains result in scores. Neither team was able to put a drive together but big plays and turnovers hurt the Trojans. The Trojans fumbled 6 times with 2 recoveries and the Warriors fumbled twice with 6 recoveries. Right after fumbling the ball on offense Dorian Gibbs got it back by intercepting a pass from the Drayton Valley quarterback but the Trojans were forced to punt two plays later. The Trojan offence never got established in the game. Leaders on Defence were Halfback Brock Dalke who had 5 tackles and a sack. Brett Beairsto had 2 sacks, a tackle and an assist. Scott Gilroy came in in the second half as defensive end and contributed with 5 tackles.

Next up for the Trojans is a road trip to Sylvan Lake on Thursday to play the Lakers.
