Trojan Football Update

Posted by Adam Belanger at May 18, 2021 9:40AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Schedule for 2021 has been added to the website in anticipation of a regular season this fall. You will note that Rocky Mountain House is not on the schedule. Unfortunately they had to pull out of 12 man football due to dwindling numbers in their program. Hopefully it will build itself back up and return soon.

There will be more details to come as we progress through this pandemic so lets keep our hopes up for a return to play soon. Keep posted for updates and possible summer dates as we go. Stay safe and keep active this summer. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out.

Trojan Discount Cards are In

Posted by Adam Belanger at Oct 26, 2020 11:06AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Cards are in. I received them this morning. They are for sale at $20 a card. If someone is writing a cheque then please have them make it out to Camrose Composite High School.

With the limitations of the Pandemic we will not be doing a traditional sale like in years past. I have attached a presale sheet with a picture of the cards that should help. When you have some cards sold please collect the money and contact me and I will ensure you get the cards you need.

Thank you for all of your work that you have done so far. I really appreciate it and this will help us greatly in the years to come. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact me.

2020 Football Fall Camp

Posted by Adam Belanger at Aug 29, 2020 2:52PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

I am happy to announce that we have some sort of football this fall. These are different times so expect that football will be different. There are no games or mixing of schools in the fall but there is a possibility of a spring football season if the pandemic cooperates. We will have to wait and see.

We have set the dates for our fall football camp. Please see the calendar for the dates.

Right now we are scheduled to go every week on Mon and Wed starting on Sep 14 with our last week being Oct 13 and 15 which is Tues and Thurs do to Thanksgiving.

We are planning for a 4:30 – 6:30 practice time with the first hour focusing on skills and drills and the last hour we are going to split up into teams and play flag football. If the practice times change I will let you know.

There will be a $20 fee to cover some costs associated with the fall camp. Once you sign up with the team we will have the fee added to your online account at school.

We will not be issuing any equipment at the start of camp and will be focusing on skill development, footwork, and learning the game. This is a very different time that we are in and we are approaching this camp in a different way to get the best out of a bad situation. We will be talking as coaches and getting the player input and may issue equipment later in the camp.

All you will need for camp is yourselves and your own water bottle. Bring your cleats if you have them, and gloves are recommended but not required. Change rooms are not allowed so the shack will not be available other then getting team equipment. Do not share equipment, gloves, cleats etc. between players.

We will be sanitizing the shared equipment at the end of every practice in accordance with the ASAA guidelines. I have wipes to use for that purpose.

I will ask that you all bring a mask as well. You will not have to wear the mask during practice as we will all be one happy cohort but if we go into the school we will have to mask up. If there is bad weather and we can’t practice outside we may go into the school to do film/whiteboard work to expand our football minds so we will need a mask in that case. Have one in your bag or car so you can grab it if necessary.

We will be doing health checks at the start of every practice and there is training for our football staff from the school on the COVD protocols.

As of now our players who do not go to CCHS will not be allowed to participate in our cohort.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all in September. If you have any questions then please let me know.

Aug 17 Trojan Football Update

Posted by Adam Belanger at Aug 17, 2020 2:16PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

I know you all have been wondering what is happening with football this fall. Me too. Alberta is still in phase 2 of it’s COVID relaunch plan which provides pretty substantial limits as to what we are allowed to do. There is no known timeline for the start of phase 3.
The Alberta Schools Athletic Association ASAA, which governs school sport in Alberta, has provided some guidance for return to sport for 2020. To read the whole document please feel free to go to www.asaa.ca.
I do not have all the information that I need right now. We know that there are no games for the 2020 fall season. According to the ASAA we are allowed to practice within a 50-person cohort as of Sep 1 but following specific guidelines and based on the approval of our specific schools/divisions. I have a virtual meeting with the rest of the league coaches scheduled for Aug 26. Here we will share ideas with each other on what everyone else is doing this fall. I will need to meet with our coaches to come up with a proposal for the possibility of moving forward with some sort of football practices in the fall. Then this proposal will have to be approved by our School’s Athletic Department, the Principal, and the School Division prior to its implementation.
Here is a synopsis from the ASAA return to sport guidelines which I hope will provide some clarity.
Cohorts of up to 50 people (inclusive of coaches and trainers) are allowed to participate in sport but there will be no mixing of cohorts. This means practices but no games for the 2020 fall season.
Any person who participates in a second cohort (ie hockey, soccer, volleyball) must wait 14 days before switching to a new cohort. This means you will have to pick one sport cohort to belong to and if you want to switch then you must wait 14 days before starting the new cohort.
Any attendees will have to be screened for any health concerns prior to attending any workouts or practices, same as the school protocols.
No sharing of personal equipment ie cleats, gloves, etc. Team equipment will be sanitized after each practice.
There will be no locker rooms so the shack is closed except for trainers’ requirements. You will have to show up for practice changed and ready to go.
Our out of school players. I will need clarification on this and both CCHS’ and the other school’s authorization to accept our Hay Lakes, New Norway, and Forestburg players at any practices at this time.
The University of Alberta Golden Bears in conjunction with Football Alberta will be running an elite program to augment the High School Season. This is designed for the Grade 12 players that are missing the season to showcase their talents and will require tryouts to make it into the program. Successful players will be tiered and put in cohorts. Because the mixing of cohorts are not allowed anybody from our team that attends the U of A program will have to be excluded from our cohort.
There will be more information to follow, so please check the website regularly and sign up for email notifications. Thanks for your continued patience.
