Posted by Adam Belanger at Sep 17, 2018 10:05AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Coach will show film form the Wetaskiwin Game after practice today at 7pm.

The Camrose Trojans tied the Wetaskiwin Sabres 20 – 20 in the Highway 13 Cup. Wetaskiwn as the defending cup champions will hold onto the cup until the next meeting between the two teams.

The Trojans scored first near the end of the first quarter on a Drew Loosemore run into the endzone from 10 yards out. Noah Segal added the extra point and we were on top 7 – 0. Wetaskiwin came back in the second on a seventy yard run by quarterback Lucas Bishop for the touchdown. Wetaskiwn went for 2 but the Trojan defence stopped them making the score 7 – 6 late in the second quarter. The Trojans fumbled on the next offensive series and Wetaskiwin took over. On 3rd and 10 the Trojans got caught on a pass interference penalty giving the visiting Sabres another chance. They took advantage on a deep pass from Bishop to Josh Wiebe for the touchdown. Again they went for 2 and again the Trojan Defence held them short. The half ended with Wetaskiwin on top 12 – 7. The defenses on both sides came out tough in the third quarter before the Trojans put together a 7 play drive ending when Drew Loosemore found Drew Forester in the endzone on a 6 yard passing touchdown. The Extra point for the Trojans was no good but we had the lead 13 – 12 going into the forth quarter. The Sabres punt went over Aiden Browns head but he quickly scooped it up and ran 90 yards into the endzone for a dramatic touchdown. The extra point by Segal was good and the Trojans had the lead 20 – 12. The Sabres clawed back getting to the doorstep on another deep pass play and the then a one yard run into the endzone for the touchdown. They went for 2 again and this time they crossed the goal line tieing the score 20 – 20. The Trojans got the ball at the end of the forth quarter ad were driving the field. On the 9th play of the drive with 12 seconds left in the game the Trojans lined up to punt the ball through the endzone for the single point and the win. The Wetaskiwin defence stepped up and blocked the punt which left the score tied. The time expired and the game ended in a 20 – 20 tie.

Loosemore went 7 for 12 passing for 56 yards and added 45 yards rushing on 12 carries. Brett Beirsto also ran for 73 yards on 15 carries. Jason Bennet led the team again with 6 tackles from his halfback spot and Noah Segal was next with 4.

The Trojans travel to Drayton Valley to play the Warriors next Friday September 21.
