Trojans win to close the season

The Camrose Trojans warded off a late surge in the second half to defeat the Rocky Mountain House Rebels 16-14. Dorian Gibbs picked up a punt deep inside the Trojans end and ran it all the way back for the first touchdown of the game. The extra point was unsuccessful. The Trojan defence came up big sacking the Rebels QB in the endzone to earn the safety. Brett Beirsto got his first touchdown of the season on a hard run inside. The Trojans went for two and Drew Loosemore found Trey Gerhart in the endzone to round out the scoring for the Trojans. The Rebels passing game held them in it and were set up for a Field Goal to take the lead but veteran Linebacker Tynan McCarthy got the block. It was a big team win with offence defence and special teams all scoring for the Trojans.

The Trojans hold their team banquet at the Camrose Composite High School on November 23rd.

Trojans last game of the season

The Camrose Trojans will host the Rocky Mountain House Rebels in their final game of the season Thursday November 2 at 6:00 P.M. at the Harry Andreason Football Field. The Rebels defeated the Ponoka Broncs last week to earn the right to come to Camrose to play the Trojans in the final game. Come on out and cheer on your Camrose Trojans as they end the 2017 year at home under the lights.

Trojans defeat the Ponoka Broncs 20 - 8

The Camrose Trojans ended the regular season on a high note defeating the visiting Broncs 20 – 8 at home on Friday night under the lights. Scoring for the Trojans were Dorian Gibbs, Nick Ioanidis, and Drew Loosemore. Terryl Sherman was 2 for 3 on converts and had a Field Goal attempt blocked. The Troajns offence leaned heavily on veteran Nick Ioanidis who racked up 125 yards on 29 carries. Dorian Gibbs had a big gain that flipped the field for the Trojans and ended up with 59 yards on 4 carries. Drew Loosemore only dropped back three times but completed a pass to Scott Gilroy underneath who ran for an additional 13 yards. The defence was again lead by Terryl Sherman who had 5 tackles and an assist. Tynan McCarthy had 4 tackles and an assist and Jason Bennet had 3 tackles and 2 assists from his spot on the corner. Jesse Dutre had a big play early sacking the Broncs QB and forcing a fumble. The Broncs recovered but were forced to punt shortly after that big play. Gilroy also contributed on defence with 2 QB sacks and 3 solo tackles from his spot on the end. The Trojans end the regular season in 5th place and have a bye in the first week of the playoffs. They await the winner of Ponoka and Rocky Mountain House who play Wednesday Oct 25. The Trojans will conclude the season at home in the first week in November. Check back soon for the game time.

Trojans lose to undefeated Stettler Wildcats

The Trojans lost to the Wildcats 42-7 on October 6 in Stettler under the lights. The Wildcats hosted a homecoming party with the game taking center stage. The Wildcats are coming off a strong season last year where they were in the provincial final at the end of November, and were undefeated to this point of the season so the Trojans were in tight going in. The battle of the line of scrimmage was won by the Wildcats and held the Trojans to 93 yards on the ground and 32 yards in the air. The Trojans surrendered 283 yards rushing and 91 through the air. Terryl Sherman was a standout on Defence amassing 11 tackles and 3 assists. Tynan McCarthy had 6 tackles and 2 assists and Dorian Gibbs had 5 tackles and 2 assists. Next up for the Trojans is a bye week and then we finish the regular season at home against the Ponoka Broncs on October 20.
